Jakarta — Indonesia’s diverse underwater reefs and wildlife will be showcased on Thursday (06/04) during the 2017 Asia Dive Expo, or ADEX, in Singapore. “We will have 25 diving sites on exhibit, with 500 unique varieties of wildlife and coral reef. Each site has its own diverse features,” Tourism Minister Arief Yahya said on Sunday (02/03). According to Arief, Indonesia has received many world-class awards for its maritime splendors, which includes two-thirds of the world’s coral reefs. Recently, CNN Indonesia awarded Indonesia for having some of the best snorkeling sites in the world, including in Raja Ampat, Papua, and Labuan Bajo, East Nusa Tenggara. Dive Magazine went on to say that Raja Ampat is the premier site in the world for underwater exploration.  The Tourism Ministry’s Southeast Asia market development team hopes to capitalize on Indonesia’s unrivaled maritime wildlife through a sales mission to promote diving tourism to the country. “We are bringing fifty sellers from Indonesia to the expo in Singapore who will promote diving packages in several destinations throughout the country,” Tourism Ministry official Gde Pitana said. The ministry hopes that the exhibition will help attract Singaporeans to visit Indonesia’s bountiful diving spots and ultimately bolster tourism in the archipelago.
