Jakarta — President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has instructed his Cabinet ministers to make their best preparations in each ministry ahead of the Muslim festival of Idul Fitri, which falls on June 25, by ensuring supplies of essential goods, transportation infrastructure preparedness and proper security. “Although Idul Fitri is still two-and-half months away, it would be better for us to pay attention to Idul Fitri preparations to improve our public services from year to year,” President Jokowi said in a limited Cabinet meeting on Monday (03/03). The government has added June 27 as public holiday on account of Idul Fitri falling on Sunday. Idul Fitri is usually a two-day holiday. The Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform Ministry, the Manpower Ministry and the Religious Affairs Ministry previously decided the Idul Fitri holiday would last three days from June 25 to June 27. The Agriculture Ministry has also prepared 1,500 cattle to anticipate a jump in beef demand ahead of the Muslim festival. The Transportation Ministry has said that the number of air passengers is expected to increase 7 to 9 percent during the holiday this year from the figure in the same period last year. “I hope the earlier preparations can ensure our Muslim brothers and sisters are able to observe the fasting month of Ramadan,” Jokowi said.
