Minahasa hosts Tondano Lake Festival 2017


Jakarta — Minahasa regency in North Sulawesi is currently holding Tondano Lake Festival 2017 at Moraya Fortress. The event was officiated on October 27 and is scheduled to run until Nov. 7. Prior to this event, Minahasa held another festival called Kasih Hill Festival from July to August this year. Coming right after the Tondano Lake Festival 2017 is a Christmas event called Wonderful Christmas 2017. The first day of the festival kicked off with a Fun Walk activity starting from the God Bless Minahasa Park, where participants walk around the city of Tondano and end up at the Tondano Moraya Castle. At the castle, the activity was then continued wit a string of dancing exercises which include Zumba dance, Poco-poco dance and Maumere dance. Culinary enthusiasts are also competed in the Ikan Mujair Woku Belanga cooking competition that aimed to break MURI record for the longest and highest number of events. Participants were also entertained by performances of Mongol Stres, Isti Julistri and Gio Idol. From Oct. 28 to Nov. 6 the region is hosting Minahasa Expo 2017 and sports competitions, followed by the selection of Waraney and Wulan Minahasa 2017 on Oct. 30 to Nov. 6. The grande finale of the beauty pageant will be held at Wale Ne Tou Sasaran. The Tondano Lake Festival’s finale will be held on Nov. 7 and will feature activities such as the Tondano Lake Choir Festival 2017, a cultural party, and the release of 1000 lanterns and 500 obor kasih (torches). “I give my appreciation towards the governor of North Sulawesi and the regent who are committed deeply to developing tourism industry that is in line with the policies of President Joko Widodo and Vice President Jusuf Kalla’s administration,” said tourism ministry’s archipelago tourism marketing development deputy, Esthy Reko Astuti. North Sulawesi is targeting to welcome 51,110 overseas tourists and 1.27 million domestic tourists for this year. Additionally, this year Indonesia is targeting to welcome 15 million international tourists.
