Jakarta — President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and Brunei Darussalam ruler Sultanal Hassanal Bolkiah are set to deliberate an agreement on the placement and protection of migrant workers. Jokowi is set to host a bilateral meeting with Bolkiah on Thursday, in which state leaders plan to talk about how to build a better cooperation with migrant workers. “They will the placement and protection of Indonesian migrant workers,” said Foreign Minister Retno Lestari Priansari Marsudi on Wednesday (02/05). The results of the discussion will then be followed up and formulated into memorandum of understanding (MoU) by the two countries’ foreign ministers, Retno added. “Hopefully, the draft will be finished in the near future,” she said. Brunei has 80,000 Indonesians workers working there, while the population is only 400,000, Retno said. Apart from working migrant issue, Jokowi and Bolkiah plan to highlight economic and investment cooperation. In the meeting, Jokowi is also expected to offer Bolkiah on Indonesia’s strategic industries, Retno said.
