Jakarta — The Indonesian government is optimistic that the revision of Bill on Terrorism will be completed before Idul Fitri this year. Nevertheless, government expected that the discussion of Draft Law on Terrorism will not be rushed. The most important is before Idul Fitri, the revision is completed, do not rush it,” Minister of Politics, Legal and Security Affairs Wiranto said on Thursday (17/05). However, Wiranto refused to comment further to dissenting opinion on the arrangements in the revision. Not to mention about the division of roles between the Indonesian Military (TNI) and the National Police. On May 14, Wiranto said the government and the House of Representatives agreed to complete Draft Law on Terrorism. He said the discussion of revision that has been going on for two years will be passed soon, so there is no need to issue lieu of law (Perppu) on terrorism crime, as President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) said before. We agree that we should not need to use Perppu, but we must complete the Draft Law on Terrorism together, Wiranto added. The Draft Law on Terrorism is the revision of Law No. 15/2003 on eradication of terrorism crime. It has been two years since the government proposed revision of the law. Wiranto said the new law will be the legal umbrella that is needed by the National Police, TNI and all security apparatus to take firm action and prevent terrorism acts.
