Indonesian jewelry attracts Japanese market


Jakarta — Indonesian handmade jewelry successfully attracted the Japanese market, especially at the 22nd International Jewelry Kobe (IJK) exhibition held in Kobe, Japan. Head of the Indonesian Trade Promotion Center (ITPC) Osaka, Ichwan Joesoef, said at the exhibition, which took place from May 16 to 18, 2018, Indonesian domestic companies presented a wide range of Indonesian jewelry that presents the superiority of handmade products. “The handmade jewelry raises the visitors’ curiosity about the story behind jewelry making. Indonesian participation in the IJK 2018 is one of the efforts to continue promoting Indonesia’s premiere jewelry portfolio to Japan,” Joesoef said on Thursday (24/05). IJK is one of the largest jewelry exhibition series in Japan. The Ministry of Commerce through ITPC Osaka and in cooperation with the Consulate General of Osaka facilitated 12 local jewelry brands from Indonesia at the IJK 2018 event. Some local brands include Dientje Art Stone, D.R.U., Elleyhan Jewelry, From Tiny Islands, Silver HS, Leginayba, Oaksva Jewelry, SSS Silver and Suardana Silver. From the exhibition, the Indonesian Pavillion recorded transactions and potential transactions of more than 10 million yen (US$90,000). The IJK 2018 was attended by 580 exhibitors and 12.6 thousand buyers. Of the buyers, there are 4,000 regular buyers present each year, dominated by wholesalers both local and overseas such as China, Korea and India. Indonesia’s jewelry export to Japan surged with a trend of 92.49 percent in the last five years, In 2016 the value of Indonesia’s jewelry export to Japan stood at $666 million and in 2017 it reached $1.02 billion. Indonesia occupies the fourth position of the Japanese jewelry market share of 9.29 percent, after the United States, Korea and South Africa.
